Glad the world cup has finally gained traction on moviechat... Some interesting matches already...

France look like they're warming up, Mexico performed well, Croatia on fire, Russia playing well above their level, Spain reliable, Portugal (i.e. Christiano Ronaldo) on form, England & Belgium look good as well...

A few other interesting teams (e.g. Senegal & Iceland) as well as powerhouses that haven't yet shown what they're capable of such as Brazil, Germany and Uruguay... Extreme mental weakness and capitulation already from Argentina... I wonder who will fall in that as the tournament progresses (maybe Brazil? Columbia?)... Whereas less prominant teams like Japan, Iceland, Switzerland and Iran have shown the will to fight regardless of the result...

Certainly a good and interesting start to the World Cup Renovatio, that doesn't always happen.

Argentina, Brazil, Germany and Uruguay (All prominent World Cup winners) have underperformed in their matches so far and been bested by scrappy team I would have considered them to easily beat. Italy aren't even in it this time around!!! (WTF?!?)

I've no idea where it is going to go but judging from the games so far it looks like it is going to be a memorable one and perhaps a good reason for countries to hire their own citizens at club level to ensure consistent play because they get to practise more often together.

If I were to guess I'm thinking Portugal might have it but there is never anyway of knowing - Remember the first game of 1990 with Argentina (The World Cup holder at the time) against Cameroon?

I think Portugal will do it, but it really is up to Christiano... Can he maintain this level for the whole tournament?! This is a Maradona level challenge, but given how they played against Spain, it seems tangible...

Cameroon Vs. Argentina 1990 was epic... A real fight... But the latter stages were also insane, with the spitting and taunting during the Netherlands vs. Germany match... The red cards... I was a child at the time, but it was probably the first world cup I watched properly with an understanding of the game...

I saw mental weakness in Brazil against the Swiss after conceeding the goal, yet people aren't talking about it... The round of 16 will be interesting for them...

I agree with you on developing local club talent... You see that clearly with Spain and possibly with England and Belgium, but i don't follow football leagues... I just catch up during world cups, Euro, etc.. Maybe the big tournaments...

No Italy, no Dutch... Different tournament... Seems very open...

The whole V.A.R. thing will only become more controversial... Already some interesting calls as a result and in spite of VAR... It could become a source of drama after the group stage...

This will be a fun Wolrd Cup.... Hopefully the round of 16 will be competitive, but we still have a few groups to settle before then...
