Whats with all the gay shit?
Seriously? I thought this was a show about Chucky, but halfway through the pilot it keeps on having to remind you that the kid is gay. Wtf.

shareI watched for about 3 minutes and knew this show wasn’t for me. I’m done.
shareI haven't watched it yet but the kid being gay was supposed to be a big part of the lead kids story, Don talked about it in a ton of interviews, he had a similar time in school when he was younger being a gay kid and kind of based the lead kid on himself somewhat.
shareOk, but it feels like it's more a show about a kid struggling with his sexuality in High School that a Chucky show.
shareAs i said i haven't watched it yet, but i imagine the first episode was more focused on that and as the show goes on and as more characters come into the show that wont be focused on as much.
shareNo surprise lol..
shareI have zero problem with the lead character being gay. None whatsoever.
Only thing that bugged me was when Chucky said "there's nothing wrong with that" - it felt off especially considering Chucky isn't exactly what you'd call a PC character
THAT'S FAIR.
shareThat's like when Dr. Doom started crying when the Twin Towers fell.
shareMy take on this: Chucky did it for laughs, and he got them. HOWEVER, I agree completely that Chucky is a product of the 80s and would totally riff on this kid right left and center if we actually had reality injected into this in any place. Instead, this is a product of the current times, not its original time, and it does show. And that, itself, is my biggest problem. Not necessarily that the main character is gay (though I am not and I don't identify with the kid as well because of it (but that is totally a ME problem)) but that Chucky himself reacts to it with indifference when it is known that he makes fun of anyone and is generally a dick!
shareIf Chucky is trying to gain Jake's trust so he can convince him to commit murder do you think he would make fun of his sexuality and risk pushing him away?
shareA good point, but I guess I have to inquire as to why Chucky needs the kid... or anyone...
shareChucky is only effective at killing when no one knows he's alive. Jake killing somebody and all the victims being close to him take the spotlight away from the killer doll. The moment everyone knows that Chucky is the threat he's dispatched rather quickly. A grown man can pick up a toy doll and destroy it no problem.
shareFair enough. I admit I haven't seen every film in the series so I'm no expert!
shareThis is getting really really old. I've never seen this many gay people in real life. Every Damn tv show.
shareDo you imagine gays walk around with a big G tattooed on their forehead so phobes like you can complain about them?
shareNo but that's exactly the image Hollywood is projecting.
shareHow so? Hollywood just says gay people are around you at all times but you don't know that they're gay unless they announce it which is pretty close to reality. That you don't go around asking everyone you meet "are you gay" gives the illusion that very few people are actually gay.
shareTo add to your argument, if we know gay people are around us at all times, why is there such an emphasis in tv and film to remind us? What makes a homosexual's sexual preference that much more significant than someone who's heterosexual to create entire subplots around them? You're honestly telling me you don't see this trend?
shareWhat I am telling you is that you're making a big issue over it purely because you assume very few people are actually gay. In this series the being gay subplot is purely an excuse for why the kid is so bullied. Is that really so big an issue for you, that gay kids tend to get bullied?
The reality is that Hollywood isn't shoving anything on you, you're just upset that you can't live in a world where all relationships are heterosexual. Tons of movies use a heterosexual relationship to drive the plot, heck Wonder Woman (2017) is guilty of this as well. If Diana was a lesbian you'd be complaining like crazy even though the movie would mostly be the same.
Very few people are gay, less than 5% of men. Do you live in San Francisco? Most rural gays move to the big cities.
shareBy your statistic 1 / 20 people you meet are gay. In a high school, you're telling me that finding two gay characters is completely impossible?
shareIt's less than that. Only 1.6% of people are gay, so it's basically 1 and a half people out of every 100 people:
https://archive.md/AtuDc
So yeah, on average, unless you live in New York or San Francisco, you are NOT going to find 28% of gay people walking around you, as it's depicted in Hollywood:
https://www.glaad.org/releases/glaads-where-we-are-tv-2020-2021-report-despite-tumultuous-year-television-lgbtq
They're literally overrepresented by 17 times their demographic figures!
Where did you get those numbers? I can't find anything concrete because it depends on people admitting they are homosexual. Some years with the cenus it's been up to 5% especially if you include bisexuals.
Canada's (where I live) 2018 census showed that 4% of our population of 15 and up identifies as LGBTQ+ but it's also interesting to note that 1/3 of those were under 25 years old.
https://www150.statcan.gc.ca/n1/daily-quotidien/210615/dq210615a-eng.htm
So, perhaps the 9% that Glaad is reporting as being represented isn't that too far off actual statistics.
Just for interest I checked out American stats through wikipedia, so obviously take that with a grain of salt, but they do have the links to the statistics, and what I find interesting is how the numbers change from year to year. So to me, there are outside circumstances that contribute to what people are willing to admit. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_demographics_of_the_United_States

Glaad didn't say that 28% of the population is LGBTQ+. At least not in what you shared.
In the 2020-21 season, bisexual+ characters make up 28 percent of all LGBTQ characters on all three platforms, a two-percentage increase from last year. These numbers still lean toward women, with 65 women and 33 men, and one character who is non-binary.
Study finds that 9.1% of series regular characters scheduled to appear on broadcast scripted primetime television this season are LGBTQ -- a decrease of one percentage point from last year’s record high percentage of 10.2 percent

First line in that same article
GLAAD is reporting 28%, which is a far cry from 1.6%.
That's what you wrote.
Nothing I have said is political. All I've talked about is the numbers. That's all I'm curious about. I shared stats with you. I've stated that recent numbers in my country don't reflect the 1.6% that you mentioned. I've not moved any goal posts. With that, I'm done.
That's what you wrote.
The link said that the 28% is the percentage of bisexual roles which make up part of the 9.1% of LGBTQ series regulars. That's the only 28% I found. I didn't know why you comparing that to the 1.6% as they have nothing to do with each other.
All I've really tried to say is that recent stats put the percentage closer to 4%. I also commented that I found it interesting how the numbers fluctuate as the only way to really know is who admits it. So call me a leftie with an agenda all you want. I don't care. I'm done.
Cyguration is an idiot man. Anyone who challenges his view is a raging leftist. You brought up an excellent point how is that test of who is gay accurate? How do you determine that? What about the ones that lie?
shareI didn't know why you comparing that to the 1.6% as they have nothing to do with each other.

YOU JUST GOT ROASTED...ISN'T SHE GREAT?🙂
2014?...YOU SUCK.
Honestly I wasn't trying to roast anyone. I was curious as to where the numbers came from because it is so difficult to actually find good statistics on the actual percentage of LGBTQ+ community. I was a little disappointed that they didn't actually read anything that I had said. But on this site it's the norm.
shareSOME OF THESE GUYSHAVE HEADS LIKE CINDER BLOCKS...I'M LOOKING AT YOU CY.🙂
shareYOU JUST GOT ROASTED...ISN'T SHE GREAT?🙂
Yep you did. You are an idiot. Stats only tell part of a story not the whole story. How do those stats determine who is gay? What about the ones who don't admit it? Whoops didn't think about that huh?
shareLMAO...SURE...GOOD GOING THERE,GUY.🙂
shareFunny how the CDC is gospel truth when it suits your narrative.
share👍
shareLMAO.😂
shareThe sexuality stuff is a minor subplot, the only thing that is really going on is that the kid is subject to bullying by a large number of people, including his father and his cousin.
It seems clear to me that chucky is going to transform the kid into a psychotic killer, we even had that whole "this is how killers are born" song going on with the emotional scenes.
