Great movie with a dose of nostalgic Last of Us feels
Got Last of Us vibes all over this after Emmett saved Regan from the alien monster (Demogorgon-esque which apparently have no official name) and began their journey together into the scenic lush overgrown jungle-like landscapes to find the island. If you haven't played the first game yet, I suggest you do to get the feel and nostalgia excitement. Wish it lasted longer though as a buddy duo surviving the wilderness and nomads they'd encounter.
I'm guessing the point of the white sand is to quiet their footsteps further and also leave a trail marker to lead them home and back to town yet Evelyn was able to backtrack fine without it after venting out. I see them going out of bounds on barefoot yet they have no makeshift sandals from tree bark or socks or even shoes. I thought that going barefoot helped somehow but apparently it didn't since Emmett was walking alongside Regan with his shoes on.
Acting was fantastic to really emphasize the deafness that both kids apparently have. Talk about unlucky genes so lets have a 3rd child and hope it's the charm? Evelyn has clearly gotten used to not really being afraid of the monsters from space. Must take super skills to survive in a world NOT knowing if you made a noise or not since you can't hear or can barely hear anything.
The island they finally made shore upon lacked any kind of safeguard or watchtower. You'd think they'd have guard posts around it so they can see people coming near their shores when they finally got the music message but nope. Lapse in judgement there with the hippy go lucky dancing and prancing like you just don't care until that unlucky boat made it to shore one day and red pilled their liberal (joking) asses.
I don't get how the monster was able to locate Marcus down below since he made the noises on the upper level of the building when he caught the curiosity killed the cat cold. Maybe he closed the hatch too loudly? You'd think he'd be sitting still to get his feet healed as fast as possible but again, nope. Also, why no splint? The kid literally had his leg bones crushed by a bear trap.
Overall, still an enjoyable sequel to match the first if only slightly a bit better than the first due to the nostalgia vibe. I question those that still want to pump out a kid during an pandemic or alien invasion situation. Then again, war torn or poor countries spit out tons of kids... Selfish fruits. -_-
