A fun follow up

I went and saw Happy Death Day 2U today. It is the sequel to 2017's horror/comedy Happy Death Day. Christopher Landon returns as director and most of the cast from the first one are back too. The sequel builds on the first one and manages to be fresh and put some fun new twists on it too. The second time may not be quite as entertaining as the first, but it is still an amusing ride. I rate Happy Death Day 2U a 7/10 and would recommend it to fans of the first one.

Sweet. I was hoping it would still be good since I liked the first one.

it was good but too sci-fi for my taste :(
lead girl is great as per usual though

The trailer was iffy for me but I ended up liking it a lot.

I was skeptical that the first movie really lent itself to a sequel.

I'm hearing good things about it, though.

Just saw this and I managed to avoid all reviews and word of mouth regarding it prior. It's funny because the first was one of the most pleasant surprises I've ever had watching a movie and the sequel actually managed to deliver too. The movie is all over the map in terms of what genre it is (horror, sci-fi, romantic comedy) yet somehow it still succeeds.

Maybe that's part of the reason it does succeed?

The first one was hardly an original idea, but somehow felt fresh. That was in no small part down to the charisma and likeability of Jessica Rothe. But I feel the genre mix possibly helped a bit too.

It had elements of horror, but not so much that it would turn off people who hated horror movies. It was partly rom-com, partly mean girls sorority style film. But not too much to make it too chick-flicky. It combined elements of whodunnit too.

In the sequel, there was a sci-fi theme but you didn't need to be a massive sci-fi fan to enjoy/understand it.

Though they dipped into many genres, they kept the balance right. Even the comedy aspects were funny, without jokes feeling forced or shoe-horned in.
