Was Cage an Angel?
It seems like a plausible theory. He's sent here to dispatch the demonized animatronics. He can't speak because it isn't an ability he learned as a temporary being. He seemed well aware that these beings could come to life by showing no surprise whatsoever at them attacking him. The drinks are an elixir that allows him to remain temporarily in a corporeal form. He seems completely unaware that everyone in society is not fooled by the black hair and beard dye, as if he's not of this earth. Add all of it up....he's an Angel.
