Jango Fett had his helmet off
jake the muss. what new rule is this?

Good point! The Mandalorians in SW:Rebels also walked around with out their helmets.
shareApparently there are some who wear the Mandalorians' armor but are not really part of their society, therefore don't follow The Way. Jango and Boba Fett weren't real Mandalorians. And we don't know what the rules are regarding immediate family, wife/husband and kids. They've confirmed in the most recent episode the common sense fact that they do take their helmets off - just not in the sight of others. Such activities as eating and personal hygiene are done in private.
shareanyone from Mandalore is a Mandalorian, whether they want it or not.
shareSomeone said Jango Fett came from a different planet, one they had colonized/conquered where many of the people were descended from the original natives. The Mandalorians take in orphaned kids from many cultures, like the show's main character, adopting their ways seems to be the main thing. Those from their original homeworld who took only bits and pieces of the culture that suited them (such as the armor) would probably be looked on with a degree of scorn and not considered "real" Mandalorians.
shareMandalorians can almost be thought of as Jewish people. People are born to a Jewish heritage, but don't practice the religion, some born into it practice it. Others come into the religion and adopt the practices.
shareBecause they did not come up with that stupid rule until after attack of the clones?
shareJango Fett, Sabina Wren, Boba Fett, and many other Mandalorians throughout Star Wars games and TV shows, are all guilty of removing their helmets in front of others.
This is why I hate ret-conning, especially when Disney does it--extremely sloppy. There is NO REASON for a Mandalorian to not be able to take off their helmet with friends and family present.
Jango and Boba aren't Mandalorians. So that doesn't matter.....
shareSee what I'm talking about? Jango Fett and Boba used to be Mandalorian Bounty Hunters, now they're just "Human" Bounty Hunters wearing Mandalorian Armor.... well ell em eh ohh.
shareThey used to be Mandalorians in the EU. It was never stated onscreen, so I don't see it as a huge deal....
I don't think the helmet removing thing is necessarily a retcon. Most theories seems to lean toward this being a unique rule either made after "The Purge", or it being something unique to this group of Mandalorians.
It is possible that Jango and Boba was not very "religious" maybe. Or Mandalorians became more withdrawn after the purge.
shareNo. Jango and Boba are just bounty hunters who wear Mandalorian armor. They are not Mandalorians though.
shareThey were Mandalorian knock-offs, then?
As a matter of fact, upon seeing Boba Fett in TESB, i never thought that a certain race/clan/religion of people all dressed this way, and that they were all bounty hunters. I thought he was only a hired-gun just like all the other scumbags around him, and he happened to have a cool suit. I doubt George Lucas thought about it longer than five minutes until after fans made Boba Fett a thing.
Yeah this is my take on it as well.
shareWell after my mate made some comments and I realised I had no clue about any of this and did some online research I found some interesting tidbits. Apparently originally Mandalorians were supposed to be a sort of Spec Ops group of stormtroopers, Mandalore supposedly the system where their training base is located specifically for their units, Mandalorian being a title similar to Ranger for example. This eventually wen through some changes and revisions and eventually was dropped completely before being elaborated upon in the EU. So it wasn't until the EU that Mandalorians really became what they are today in universe which is a race of people with a warrior centric culture which inherently makes them proficient soldiers. Or something along those lines anyway. Been a few weeks now.
shareInteresting info, thanks for sharing. George really changed a lot of stuff and kept changing even after everyone was yelling him to stop. He came up with names and had to fill them in on the fly. Changing what a Mandalorian was meant Boba Fett could not have been a real Mandalorian, so they went ahead and made up new BS to cover the previous one.
