Really Good Fight Choreography & My Movie Review (spoiler-free)
Best fight scenes I've seen in many years. Their fighting-style included martial arts and many different weapons. Anyone who enjoys John Wick-style fight scenes will like this movie. Plenty of action.
I found the cinematography interesting. It's the first time I've seen a former African Empire or Kingdom, besides Egypt, represented in a movie. They based the architecture on reality. It's a small budget movie, so everything is done at a smaller scale. The army should have 6,000 women and the Empire 350,000. I wish they found a way to show that grandeur. But, I don't believe there would be a way to do it without CGI. This movie feels very real without the fake cartoony feel.
All the acting performances were strong and the characters were written well and likeable. I expect acting nominations especially for Viola Davis who gives a strong performance along with several newcomers. John Boyega was impressive, too.
Costumes were based on old photos and drawings of the women. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some nominations for costumes as well as for direction and acting.
This isn't a documentary. The story along with the characters are fictitious. It almost bordered on soap opera once or twice, but it's mainly an action flick with plenty of fighting. I watched it twice.
Pop some popcorn and enjoy. 9/10
