There's a lot of people dunking on each other from all sides on this movie.

What about the average smoe who just doesn't care? Either they watch the movie or not. It's just there and there's no interest in the arguments keyboard warriors are throwing at each other? Are those people racist for not caring? Are they woke because they picked a movie at the theater? OR, did they just go about their lives and be moviegoers?

I figure most people just pick a flick.

It's not hard. Just watch a trailer or look at a poster and choose to watch a movie or not. It's too easy to get bogged down in the culture war. I see the whole culture war as another marketing gimmick.

The trouble is modern trailers often spoil movies in one way or another so I tend to avoid them now, and often they'll have scenes in them that aren't even in the movie. Sometimes a good poster can definitely intrigue as long as they steer clear of the typical tropes (remember when nearly every new movie poster was orange and blue?)
Nowadays I get interested in stuff by directors whose previous work I like and by word of mouth if it's something unknown. Unfortunately it's that word of mouth part that usually features the culture war, along with it seeping into other parts like the publicity and marketing, writing, casting etc. Like I said if you can avoid it then more power to you.

It seems like you're doing what you can. Honestly, Word of mouth in my circle is pretty non-political. It's actually nice because we all have agreements and disagreements, but we don't really get into anything serious aside from immediate issues like family emergencies.

That's fairly dismissive. I'm not watching this because I'm a horror guy who watches bad movies. If I do see it, it's probably because it's just plating at a party or I see it for free because I'm bored. There is no reason to or not to see it. It's just another movie on the digital shelf. It does misrepresented history, but people have actually had the real history brought up front because of the movie. So I really don't see an issue here.

No average schmoe is without bias, whether they like it or not. We don't "just" do things. Even choosing not to participate in the online drama is a choice, but if you're making that choice, power to you.
