Getting backlash now because the Dahomey tribe were not-so-awesome?

At least the hubbub around this movie has brought to light that, despite the impression of many, Africa wasn't simply a continent of peace-loving innocent wide eyed children being preyed upon by the utterly evil heterosexual white man.

Yours is a bit clickbaity, "drama" reporting, the music at the starts tells it all.

This one explains little better how awful the Dahomey tribe were. They were a massive part of the slave trade and slaughtered god knows how many people. They performed mass sacrifices on slaves beheading hundreds if not thousands in one session. They ransacked every village in the territories, killed and took slaves. Soldiers in the army were recruited as young as seven or eight years old.

At the end of the 1700's they accounted for 20% of the slave trade. When the Europeans banned slavery, the Dahomey tribe continued. When slavery was abolished in the USA they continued to trade slaves.

Then the French eventually scrubbed them out with ease.

They were women soldiers because they sold all the men to slavery. The constant wars were started by them trying to capture slaves from other slavers.

The Dahomey tribe were the worst of the worst. Not hero's.
