Among the worst slavers - Dahomey operated at the peak of the slave trade

Dahomey were one of the kingdom's that made the Atlantic slave trade possible and greatly benefited from the capture and trade of african blacks as slaves, including women and children.

It took whites (the British) intervening to stop them from the business practice of trading blacks.

reply

NOT true at all! All whites are RACIST, BIGOTTED SLAVERS!!!

(I know it's hard to tell these days, but that's Liberal parody)

reply

Why does EVERYTHING have to be about politics on this site?

reply

Because LIEberals make everything political and so I'm makin' fun of them.

If you disagree, you're a RACIST; and probably HOMOPHOBIC and TRANSPHOBIC as well (not to mention every other made-up 'phobic' word)!

reply

The British stopped the slave trade and Dahomey declined. Seems like movie ignores history except for the Amazons.

Dahomey was organized for war, not only to expand its boundaries but also to take captives as slaves. Slaves were either sold to the Europeans in exchange for weapons or kept to work the royal plantations that supplied food for the army and court. From approximately 1680, a regular census of population was taken as a basis for military conscription. Female soldiers, called Amazons by the Europeans, served as royal bodyguards when not in combat.

reply

Does that mean there should not be a film made about them? Or are you certain that the film plot will gloss over the country's slaver past?

reply

Certainly there should be a film about them. I hope it's historically accurate, that would be great.

reply

I think the slavery aspect will be glossed over a bit or show their country as the victims of the slave trade
