I don't think M. Night Shyamalan even knows where he is going with all this

And I predict the eventual explanation will be underwhelming.

Either way, I am done. They have wasted enough of my time.

Shyamalan only produces it (directed one ep too, IIR).

I think it is top notch. Great writing, directing, and acting. The "explanation" you are expecting is already partly revealed. I am shocked that you stayed with it for 2 whole seasons if you feel like this. What kept you tuning in, specifically?

I like the acting, too. And I don't disagree, this feels like a quality production. But it also feels to me like it's not going anywhere.

What explanation did I miss?

reply

None. Literally nothing happened that advanced the plot except in the season 2 finale.

In S1 we discover that Leanne has supernatural abilities when she gives Sean leprosy. We also discover that she is part of a group that does similar things and that they are assigned to places for vague problem solving reasons that seem to be come from real or perceived divine direction. Leanne is punishing herself for something and little creepy effects like the crickets and cracks are showing up as signs that something is amiss. Dorothy's insanity scenario is also explained pretty damn well too.

In S2 we get a clearer picture of the crypto-christian cult and find out that it isn't just Leanne who has abilities. We also find out the consequences of Leanne's play for free will. The group actually does apply itself to preventing bad things from happening via some divination. Also revealed is the lengths of violence her group is capable of. The video reveals that they may be something more than human when it talks about burning the body after bleeding it out in a certain way lest the death "not take." S2 also outlines Sean's role in the fate of Jericho.

The facts are unfolding. If you want the equivalent of reading the last page of the book first than I don't know what to say. I will agree that it feels like it spins its wheels often but for a show that has only ten 30 to 40 minute long episodes, plenty has happened. The picture has become more clear. The "explanation" is in progress.

If you are happy with the way things are going, that is your prerogative.

And no, I didn't miss any of this, it just doesn't do it for me, and makes me doubt that the writers have a well-defined story in mind. Looks even more nebulous than Lost so far.

Fair enough. It always boils down to one's taste.

Lost was a fantastic show until season 4. Even then, it managed to do some things well while in decline. The finale of Lost left too much unexplained and what was explained was not so good. but the ride there was great. Did you want solid explanations in Lost as we went along? How long can a mystery exist on a show before it has gone on too long without final explanation?
