Alexandra Daddario was a major producer on this.
I find that interesting. She also got cast really late. Which makes me think she stepped in because someone had to drop out or they had trouble casting the role.

shareMaybe there was a budget cut and she stepped in to stop the film from being cancelled.
shareThat could have been the case. I also think they shortchanged the ending at the last minute.
Although she promoted the movie a little bit on social media, she never did any interviews or Q&A screenings. Kind of odd.
I've just done some digging. It's always a tell-tale sign when a film has so many producers so as to make sure that no single person puts too much money into it.
The below review puts it best: "The film also has a laundry list of production and distribution companies attached. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a list that long before a film begins."

Several years prior, the writer had previously worked on the same film as Alexandra: Burying the Ex, which had the same producer - Kyle Tekiela. So it seems like somebody owed someone a favour.
Either way, it's wild to think that this movie was shot in 16 days. The rushed pace may have something to do with the fact that the film was reportedly* scheduled to be shown at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival, which ran from September 6 to 16. However, the official story is that Alex was cast in early September.
Back to the producers, perhaps they had already shot the movie and needed more money to recast whoever had her role in the beginning.
