What is the fuss about the ending?

Before I watched the movie I read reviews about it, and lots of them mentioned how the last 2 minutes are incredibly sad and emotional. So while watching, I was excited and I was bracing myself for those amazing last 2 minutes. But...they never came, and the movie was suddenly over. So I don't understand. In the last 2 minutes, all that happens is the healthy guy meets his new neighbors, introduces himself to them and tries to connect a bit with Evan the neighbor kid. And that's it. We don't even see him weeping over the loss of his friend or being sad because things are not the same now that he is not there.

So what is there about this ending that is supposed to be so very sad? Can someone please explain?

The sad and emotional ending people are referring could be one of two scenes, IMO:
1. The death scene, when Michael drinks the euthanasia cocktail and begins to hyperventilate and cry, showing his terror over what is about to happen to him. Andy talks him through it and Michael eventually calms down, lies back, and then is gone. And it is sad and emotional.
2. The following scene when Andy is meeting the new people moving into Michael's old apartment. Maybe he is sad, remembering Michaels's last moments, of which the new people have no knowledge. Or maybe he is turning the page to a new segment of his life, connecting with the kid, Evan, and trying to interest him in the Paddle Ball game he used to play with Michael.

I'm leaning toward number 1, and the two minutes people refer to really mean some indeterminate period of time close to the credits rolling.
