Because there is no way in hell the book could be as BORING as this miniseries was! And so confusing, too! If the aliens are dying long before they've even turned the Earth red, then why is there a post-apocalyptic future setting?
I sincerely doubt the book was like this! For crying out loud, just make a DIRECT adaptation for once! Is it REALLY that HARD?!
Gave this show a chance and watched all 3 episodes but by the third one I was completely bored and just wanted to skip to the end to see how it concluded, and even the very ending was dull.
There was potential here for a decent adaptation but it all fell very flat and the alterations such as the love story and flash forwarding to the future didn't work for me. I agree, perhaps if this had been a more faithful version the ratings for it wouldn't have been so low.
Continuous flash forwards kind of made it unpleasant. Besides, some nice questions were asked, but never pursued by the characters. Was heaps better than the French series, though.
