Why the flash-forwards into the future?

Or is the arrival of the Martians the flashbacks, and that the series is actually set when Earth is already ravaged and looking like Mars? I'm confused.

Seems like a creative choice by the writers to make it a bit different. Can't say I'm a fan of it. I'm sure most people know the story of The War of the Worlds by now but still, why spoil it by already revealing snippets of the future?

I didn’t like it at first, but then i thought that the destroyed world doesn’t go back to normal after the enemies die. So it is good to see the aftermath.

episode 2 suggested they may be back now the initial phase is over. They turned the Earth into Mars. Hospitable for them.
