In theory Magnum's age of 40 can be possible, but how in the hell is Higgins supposedly a retired MI5 agent? At most she would have done maybe 10 years, not old enough to retire from being a spook... why not use an older woman for the roll? The only reason I can see that they didn't was they are going to get Higgins and Magnum to bump nasties later on.
shareHiggins is not a retired MI5 agent. She is a former MI6 agent, who had been disavowed by the agency for an unspecified reason.
I agree that she is former not retired but when did they say she was disavowed? She still has contacts there that she is willing to use if necessary. Could you do that if you were thrown out?
shareBut if you were a disavowed agent with MI5 you would have had to have done something very bad, meaning no one in MI5 would ever give you the time of day.... and most likely you would not be allowed to leave the country as you would be considered a security threat and they would not want you outside the country where you might sell secrets to the enemy. The whole Higgins backstory is just bad for so many reason.

That's pretty much it.It's the same reason they made Dr Watson a young woman.To do the age old cliched will they won't they schtick and add a little sexual tension to the show.Realistically i don't see how a 33 year old young person would gain that much experience or that many contacts with MI5.Unless they hire them and put them in the field straight out of college over there.
Hillermans age made his Higgins far more believable.It made sense that someone who had been around as long as him would be as knowledgeable and experienced as him.Weeks seems a bit too young to pull that off.
They don't go right out into the field, once the get selected their basic program for development is a 4 year program before they even get the chance to apply for anything close to field work... So it's really doubtful she would have ever managed to be the lead on any assignment given she probably left when she was 30 and would have likely been 21 or 22 when she got selected given her only 4 years of possible field work.
I do agree she is just there for the schtick of when will they bone, which is kind of a kick in the fact to the original Magnum at this point they might as well have called the show Castle in Hawaii... It would have made more sense and probably gotten them better numbers as they the women that like that kind of crap would at least know that this was where you could find it.
