to all the people advocating racial diversity in movies taking place in centuries past...

What's next? Racially diverse adaptations of Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, Wuthering Heights, and Jane Eyre?

How would you feel about that? Would that still not take you out of the story?

That is basically their religion. Their obsession with making everything about race and hating their own culture makes it to where these social justice types (who want SOCIAL justice....not justice) cannot see anything about what everyone's race is.

The time has come for a black Hitler in the 1917 sequel

Slavery ended in England in 1807.

The only part I questioned was if it would be realistic that Black girls were attending an integrated finishing school in the era of the movie.

Britain back in the 17-19th scenery was a extremely classist and racist society, seeing Asians and blacks being taught how to be lady like is insulting, these people would never ever have such standing in the British society and, to me feels almost an attempt to white wash their history, white wash in the sense to give the younger generation an impression that Europe back then was not a highly racist society. I do not find this equalising at all, in no way what so ever. Why didn't the film at least problematise the overt racism at the time, instead of pretending it was an equal society?

I don't know, it doesn't make sense to me.

I couldn't watch Anne with an E for the same reason.

Interesting. To me it always felt like the purpose is to reinforce the notion that Britain is at war with Eurasia and Britain has always been at war with Eurasia - and by that I mean, Britain is a multi-ethnic society and Britain has always been a multi-ethnic society (even though it hasn't, of course).

Why does any of it take you out of the story? It is the story.

Welp speaking about them inserting Other races aka Forced Diversity into TV shows and movies has now hit an all time Low. The Movie about Anne Boleyn is now staring a black woman!! As an American with no dog in this fight. It still REALLY Pisses me off that they now have to make an actual Historical Figure into another race!! Not just any old B-List historical figure, but the Forkin Queen of England! It’s disgusting 🤮 🤢 🤮
Maybe they Should Have a Gay White Woman place Rosa Parks, or how about a An Asian Redneck play Martin Luther King! Or a transvestite playing Barry Obama
