We have had film colorization and photoshop for decades now. Are you telling me they couldn't colorize their avatars? I know they were playing it for laughs but that went a bit too far
It also didn't make sense for that grandmother to be in black & white and the explanation was "she couldn't find a color photograph."
Someone over 100 years couldn't find one color photograph? And also, the Horizon company was so advanced, they could easily color any old B&W photo if requested as you said. So even if the grandma prefers to look like her younger self, it didn't have to be in B&W. At first someone suggested the colorization process would be a Premium feature and more expensive. But she is the grandmother of that rich girl. They could easily afford any upgrade.
But it's a TV show comedy so it's probably not worth getting too worked up over. They probably knew this and did it for gags, I agree.
I can understand why she might not have a color photo. The colored ones who have shown her as older than she wanted to be. We even get that on the internet today where people will use ten year old photos in their profiles. Being that this was her eternity, she was probably insisting on being forever young.
The idea of it being a premium service to colorize is excellent. If they had done it with someone who did not have much money then the gag would have worked perfectly. So close, yet so far.
Maybe the body doesn't have its basic fonctions anyways, so being old or young doesn't matter. So maybe people voluntarily choose to be the way they were when they died. But yeah I agree it's odd.
Precisely, the Choke guy played by cancer man from the X-files... why would he want to be the old fart. Or better yet why in the world did they bother make them need to urinate when they never bother to give them any tastse sense beyond salty and sour... But the biggest problem was what the hell was with the gig limit. Gig would make sense if you were trying to store memories, but if they were worried with some sort of computational limit it wouldn't have been based on gigs it would have been MIPS, IPS or maybe teraflops... but using gigs made no sense.
The little boy and XX Tattoo incident tells us that changing their appearance is not a technical issue. The purpose of these people living in paradise is to comfort their living family members. So they must look exactly the same as family members remember. The old lady was remembered by her family through a black and white photo. Colorizing it or replacing her image with a younger version won't serve the purpose.
