Why has New Amsterdam's scheduling been so erratic?

https://www.pajiba.com/tv_reviews/whats-going-on-with-nbcs-erratic-scheduling-of-new-amsterdam.php

New Amsterdam's 16th episode of Season 4 airs on April 19, its 15th episode aired earlier this week on Feb. 22 and its 14th episode aired on Jan. 25. The NBC medical drama has faced a number of scheduling obstacles this season, from the Winter Olympics to President Biden's State of the Union to the scheduling of The Thing About Pam.

It's already being phased out. They don't care about this show anymore. They're probably only finishing the short next season to fill out their streaming content.

reply

Unfortunately it's been cancelled since you put out your post so pretty sure they don't care. Sorry.

reply

Looks like the rest of the episodes now run weekly until ep 22. IMBD shows a season 5 but who knows. CBS treats Magnum PI the same way.

There's a post on here from a while back saying it was renewed for three more seasons. I'm certain that was at the end of S2.

Has it definitely been cancelled like @PaladinNJ is saying above.

It went right up its own arse and really ladelled the minority type issues into too many story lines. Nice to give some of these issues a voice at times but it's lost it's core viewership who aren't affected by these points when it does it week after week. It began to feel like an agenda being driven in to you.

ER was such a success as it hit home with your average viewer.

"Minority type issues"? Seriously, issues that deal with people of color are not just "minority type issues". I've watched New Amsterdam from the beginning, and while it's realistic about issues pertaining to people of color, it dosen't focus on it every week, so stop lying about that. Dealing with those issues, which exist in real life, are not "agendas"----that's real life for people of color. But, since you're not American, you wouldn't understand that, would you? The show will be on for one more season---its current one. Obviously it's still popular, or else people wouldn't be asking about it. At least NBC gave its viewers a heads-up that this new season will be its last---meaning there will be enough time to wrap up all the characters' stories and give them a good send off.

reply

You seem to, for some reason, have focussed solely on the issue of race.

I made no comment about that so "stop lying about that" yourself.

Lol at having to be American to understand racism. That's pretty racist of you yourself. I get that we don't have quite the same problems over here but it exists and we're aware of it.

Aside from that point of your argument and looking at the actual points I was making as a whole, when consistent points are raised with a skewed view it absolutely does become an agenda.

Just like the Good Fight's political stance became over-bearing to the point the show stopped being fun, repeated and consistent story lines from a specific mindset become an agenda.

There's been far too many people with the same opinion of the show for it to not be a factor for many viewers and that will be part of why it's been cancelled.

Like I said, it was a fun an interesting take on the medical health care system in the beginning but they went overboard on it and it stopped being a medical procedural with some informed story telling midway through its run and centered on too many other points which drove parts of the audience away.

Whatever, troll. The show deals with Americans issues, which you obviously can't relate to. You mentioned "minority type" issues, which is obviously another way of mentioning racial issues. That's exactly what the hell you were trying to say. I wasn't lying about a damn thing. You just hate that I busted you on saying it. There's nothing "racist" about me saying that you don't understand American racism, and why it's an issue that has to be dealt with in an American show. There's always some fool like you whining about anything in any show that focuses on issues like sexism and racism---it's always some white men who have a problem with that. As long as that's part of real life, it's going to be dealt with in a show, because these are real issues women and people of color have to deal with it. White man aren't the only people watching these shows, so get the hell over yourself. If you don't like the shows, don't watch them---it's plain and simple as that. Nobody gives a damn about whatever tired-a** "points" you were supposedly making, which was nothing but, "Waah waah, I can't stand watching anything that dosen't deal with just things only about white men all the time, waah waah!"

And none of what you mentioned had jack to do with the show's cancellation---the creators decided it was simply time for the show to end---end of story. I'm glad it was able to end and go out on its own terms---something a lot of shows don't get to do.

It's obviously 100% not another way of mentioning racial issues. If I'd meant racial issues, I'd have said it specficially. I'm including all issues where the show focussed on points that drive an audience, who were initially enjoying the show, away.

You sound awfully bitter and I'm sorry that you have to live with some horrific views thrown at you on a daily basis and I understand your anger but it's misplaced at me here.

I'm not white for starters. I'm also a minority in my country too. FWIW, my wife has the exact same issue with the show and got bored of it so your "sexism" part of the complaint really goes out the window there too.

You've missed the point with regards to what the core audience of the show liked and that it disappeared up its own arse. It's clear that this was reflected in viewing figures as they dipped year on year.

The ratings were 6s and 7s in the first season, 5 in the 2nd, 4s and 3s in the 3rd, 3s in the 4th and 3s and 2s in the 5th.

The show would have gone on for years and years if the ratings remained at the level they were at in the first season or two.

Your myopic view of how these are only "American" issues speaks volumes. You'll have to explain to me how calls for better health care in other countries don't affect people beyond your location.

It’s not even so much the content that's the issue at points. It’s the WRITING. The speeches from Max do nothing to engage the audience which is why the figures were driven down.

This is entertainment. It's not politics, so if you want people to listen to the points being made, it has to engage.

You can’t be surprised people switch off when the entertainment is unenjoyable.

You seemed to have given enough of a damn to reply to a post from last year. I hope you find peace.

Just watching s5x11. Then there's a break for another week the e12 and 13 on the same day then I guess that's it. Why did they even bother to have a Xmas break?

reply

The last two eps wern't even a two parter or anything. Just two random last episodes. Weird. Well at least they aired them.

reply

They weren't two "random" last episodes, they were the last episodes that wrapped up the final conclusion to the show, period. That was a really nice and thoughtful ending to the show, though.
