Congrats to everyone behind the making of this film, because you made a film that was both beautiful and terrifying, and you deserved all the recognition in the world.

How did he not climb "free solo"? There was no equipment other than a chalk bag, he just scooted up 3000 feet of rock like a gecko. With cameras who would have seen and recorded any equipment or assistance.
As for whether he did it first, I freely admit I don't keep track of climbing stats.

Okay, I read your last post before it was deleted, and I wanted to ask: Is there any evidence that Honnold laid a finger on the camera crew's pitons or ropes? In the film they said that they were out of his direct path, where they could see him, but not touch him, or help him if he fell.
So is there any evidence that Honnold actually used any assistance, filmed or otherwise? Certainly the presence of pitons or ropes on El Cap isn't proof that he wasn't entirely free solo, because there are always climbers, ropes, and equipment on El Cap! There's probably pitons all over the route anyway, I knew some climbers back in the day, and they left me with the impression that Yosemite was riddled with old pitons anyway.
