My Reaction - Spoilers
ok, i'm old enough to have followed this a bit when it was happening, and read about some of the details after, especially the food poisoning caper.
what this doc did for me was to show, along with all that, what an impressive community the rajneeshis erected up there on the arid hills.
also that the dirty tricks went both ways. especially the completely unjustified refusal to register the newly arrived homeless people, disallowing all their voting rights at a stroke.
also the terror attack on the hotel in portland. so i then learned that the commune started arming themselves in justifiable self-defense.
as far as their taking over the podunk town of antelope pop. 2, that was only after they were disallowed their own city charter.
the point being, this situation was very much a two-sided tango, more than i'd realized.
and finally, the ag or whoever refusing a negotiated surrender, chasing the guy down, and dragging him thru prisons for three months before depositing in the court room was just miserable.
the self-righteous codgers did not, in the end, gain a lot of sympathy from me.
the crazy cult built something beautiful there out of nothing, and got nothing from the out-lying community but contempt. i can see why a feud became inevitable.
