What was the point of the years of silence?

The Rajneesh went through several long periods of silence. And after finishing the series, and wondering if it was;

- A genuine period of inner reflection (or doing so to look line one)
- Was it to claim ignorance about what cult's wrong doings? He could state he had no part in any of the groups crimes, since he wasn't really communicating.
- Was he drugged during those periods. Several people said they thought he was eventually poisoned, and wondering if he was also poisoned to be a silent figurehead in the past.

other option - he was just coasting, relying utterly upon sheela to carry the load, while he drank, had sex, rode around in his stupid rolls royces.

i mean, the guy was a pure fraud. that much is clear to me, at any rate.

whatever sheela's defects, she was a phenomenal leader, community builder. if she fell apart at the end, it might have been out of a sense of being utterly used by a man who only cared about himself.
