See it in the theater, while you still can

It is a decent horror film. The audience does not know exactly what is going on for a while. So a feeling of dread builds as we go along.

I suspect that about 15 minutes might have been cut to make it a tighter story. We got hints of a back story for the teacher and her cop brother. It wasn't really explained and they should have cut that out entirely. They probably could have added five or 10 minutes before the climax. It's too bad that they did not have more money to market this. More theaters might have carried it in the USA.

I sat through the first 20 minutes of Dune Part I (2021) on a huge IMAX-sized screen. It was so boring that I walked out to a smaller theater to see this instead. Good move! I have HBO-Max so I can resume Dune there... if I have trouble falling asleep. Antlers is nice little horror film, worth seeing.

I'm glad I went out of my way to watch it. I was expecting a simple monster movie, one that was more artfully filmed (given the quality of the trailer). Was pleased to find that the film had far more substance, and it took its time in building dread/tension. Chilling, engaging, and some fantastic gore effets.

I think the backstory for the teacher was mainly added to explain her obsessive motivation in helping the child, since it wasn't really a narrative arc or anything, just flavor for her character. I went and read the short story afterwards, and yeah, the protectiveness there wasn't as convincing as the movie. But definitely see your point. Those PTSD segments of hers weren't entirely necessary in the alrealdy slow-paced film.

It is in 2,800 theaters in the US/Canada. It grossed $4.2 million on Halloween weekend and $2 million this weekend.

I also recommend Last Night in Soho (2021), which does not appear to be a horror film... until it becomes one. The Woke critics may have hurt its box office.

It would spoil the film to explain why. Society was more misogynistic in the 1960s and this becomes obvious in the film.

I think this British film will get BAFTA nominations and will win some of them.

The Wendigo has fascinated me since reading Pet Sematary.
