So I just watched this movie. Wouldn't something that large striking the earth cause an ash cloud so large that it would block the sun and cause another ice age? Would that really be gone in 9 months?

No it wouldn't. The global effects would be catastrophic and not just some glowing craters as shown in the last sequences. The nine months was a convenient plot device. Possibly symbolic of human (re)birth, as they're all gonna have to start again from next to nothing.

Yes it would. It would indeed cause an Ice Age which would last for many years. Humanity could survive, but it definitely
would not be over in nine months.
