I'm a Sondheim freak but this song never has been one of my favorites. I've heard it performed by various artists 15-20 times if not more and it always seemed too theatrical and contrived. But Adam Driver doing it actually made me cry - first time ever when hearing the song. I thought he was astounding all through the movie.

Scarlett was great also, but she's always been a good actress. I enjoy watching mostly everything she is in, even if the plots are dumb, she always acts really well.
First time I noticed him was is Girls on HBO, then when he played a backup singer in that movie with Oscar Isaac and Justin Timberlake a few years ago. He's a standout in everything he does, but I agree that with this movie he steps into the stratosphere of Hollywood actors.
