Who here is defending this show?
I certainly am NOT.
Defending it from what? From what I've seen, the only enemies of this show are the writers, editors and casting department.
shareA lot less than elsewhere, considering this site is off Amazon's radar when it comes to astroturfing and shill deployment.
shareI like the show. Could it be better? Yes, for sure. I wish the rights were available for the Silmarillion, but they weren't and that has had a negative impact on fleshing out a lot of the back story. On the other hand, even though we were only given some glimpses of the War of Wrath, I never thought any aspects of the Silmarillion that were mentioned in the LOTR Appendices would ever be filmed. So for that alone, I'm happy. I've only watched the two episodes that were released prior to today, so I'm hopeful that after establishing the groundwork for the show we can move onto the Numenorean storyline and their corruption.
shareThree episodes in and I'm done. A bit of a disappointment after all the cost and hype
shareIt's been decent so far. Stellar production values, interesting story developments and it has me interested in what happens next.
This show is no where near as bad as the hate bandwagon would have anyone believe.
Saskia, I'm placing you as part of this fan-baiting problem. You sound like a paid shill for Amazon. What I personally saw of the show was BORING or just plain RETARDED.
I've enjoyed it thus far, all this talk of HotD versus ROP is interesting, I'm enjoying both roughly equally for different reasons.
HotD is a very contained story centering on a few members of House Targaryen. It's strength is in it's politics and writing. The acting is great too.
ROP has numerous sub-plots with characters in different locations such as the Dwarven subplot, the Hobbit/Meteor Man subplot, the Humans/Orcs subplot, Galadriel of doing her own thing. The jumping between these is keeping it fresh and thoroughly entertaining for me, I like following all of these stories. The production values are gorgeous, a notably larger budget production versus HotD. All three ROP episodes thus far have flown by so I don't understand criticism with regards to entertainment value. The acting is a bit lesser than HotD though and there have been a few silly instances of poor writing but the haters are magnifying issues and blowing things out of proportion.
Fan baiting isn't a thing. It wasn't a thing last week, now that 'anti-woke' e-personalities have discussed it, it'll become the latest conspiracy theory. Don't get your opinions from hate filled peoples online.
I'll stick with fan-baiting for the time being, for all anyone knows it was a whistleblower within the industry who revealed it.
As for Rings of Power, I'm not interested because TOLKIEN HIMSELF didn't write it, and I am not interested in some tawdry third-party FANFICTION, even if it was made by INexperienced writers working for Amazon with a fucking massive $1bn budget. It may look nice, but even the CGI is flawed. I mean, Warg Chihuahuas, anyone?
Fan baiting is a thing. You can tell it is by how certain people are now desperately saying "it's not true, you're just racists and misogynists" to try shaming you into not talking about it.
