Was Sauron really not a bad guy?

Did he just turn out that way because he was bullied by Melkor too much?

History is always written by the victors so the losers are always made out to be the villains. Only in time do you often find that the victor was also the villain.

I'm starting to wonder if this is going to be one of those weird anti-hero woke origin stories like Disney's Cruella or Netflix's Ratched. Sauron may have been trying to liberate the oppressed subjects of the various Dwarven/Elven/Human royalty.

reply

I really hope not.

Sauron WAS a bad guy, no doubt about it. Anyone here who says otherwise can STFU and GTFO right now.

You should probably learn to recognize satire and sarcasm better. But I'll cut you some slack, because at least you're passionate about these awesome movies.

Legit LOLd at this.

There were some among lesser gods who were arrogant and proud and Melkor used that to turn them against the Valar.
He didn't bully them.

Well said. He offered what they wanted, and they couldn't or wouldn't see that they'd wind up being his servants & under his domination, far more so than they had imagined themselves to be under the rest of the Valar. The weaker ones submitted to Melkor, the stronger & smarter ones (like Sauron) waited for their chance to take Melkor's place.

reply

Not as bad as Morgoth, but I'd say Sauron was the master manipulator though.
