shareThe first comment to this article called the new series LOTR fan fiction, and that sounds about right. Unfortunately.
shareanother comment said that the series is based off The Unfinished Tales published by Chris Tolkien, which is correct, but then he states that it is not canon to the Lord of the Rings story to which he is wrong. I'm curious who the black people are suppose to portray here because Tolkien's world may have had a diverse world of different species (Elves, Men, Hobbits, Dwarves, Orcs) but it wasn't an "integrated" world either. The Easterlings may have looked Asiatic and the Southrons or Haradrim could be African looking but those groups didn't live amongst the Central/Northern European looking Dunedain, Dunlendings, Elves, or Dwarves.
I believe you can pull off casting a mixed race (Half Black/White actor/ress) playing an Elf or Numenorean but if you're gonna cast Yaphett Koto or Naomi Campbell it's a bit of a stretch. Peter Jackson cast Maori actors in all roles in the trilogy and it didn't create a ruckus because he didn't point out that they weren't caucasian and they were playing a part.
Lenny Henry? LMFAO!
