Died Nearly 1 Billion times?

So I just watched The Old Guard

the part the that completely took me out of the movie was Charlize Theron's characters Andy losing her Immortality...

In the movie they state they dont know why, when or how you lose it, Just at some point you stop healing....

Now I could have gone with the movie and just figured she was the oldest and she just ran out of "Lives"....she died so many times her "Juice" or Immortality was up...

Buuuuuut....

what kills that for me, is they revealed that her lover/partner was put in a iron box and dropped at sea for 500 years + resulting in constant death and waking up....

if you do a little math, This results in a Minimum death of over 500 Million during that time period and more likely closer to 788 Million deaths during this time....

I calculated If you were put in a box and locked in at the bottom of the seas, You could "die" 2 to 3 times a minute...

seeing how you wouldnt have any breath to hold.....so what I mean is , The very first time they dropped her at sea, she probably took a deep breath that last 30 to 45 seconds, she would have held the breath as long as possible after she would have released the breath and started the process of drowning for the for time, Then died..

within 10 or so seconds she would have "awakened"...with No Breath/air and would not have had the 30 to 45 seconds of air/deep breath, upon waking she would have immediately started blacking out and would not have had the 30 to 45 second breath of air that she released upon her first death and would immediately start blacking out and dying upon "awaking up ".....this process would literally taken place for the next 500 years where she died 2 to 3 times a minute for the next 500 hundreds years

if you do the math....

If you died 3 times a minute.....that 180 times a hour.

180 times 24 hours in a day is 4,320

so she died 4,320 times a day.

4,320 times 365 is 1,576,800 times a year

and 1,576,800 times 500 is.....788,400,000

so according to the Math and Logic, we have proof, that Van Veronica Ngo 's character "Quynh"

Literally died somewhere between 500 Million and 788 Million times and her immortality is still working fine(given she is alive in the end credit sequence)

Its actually IMPOSSIBLE for Charlize Theron 's characters Andy to have died MORE....given that Andy would have literally had to have died MORE than 3 times a minute for the last 500 + years while "Quynh" was dying 2 to 3 times a minute underseas at the same time

so In conclusion....I found it absolutely absurd that Andy's character was losing her Immortality when They provided us concrete evidence of how long the Immortality could last and The amount of times one could die(in Quynh's case Literally 788 Million times)

we literally have Proof, the Immortality lasts PAST Nearly 1 Billion deaths

how many times could Andy have possibly died in the last 500 years?

1000?

2000?

Hell 10,000?

thats literally not even 1% of the staying Power The "Immortality" has based on "Quynh" deaths

Massive Plothole but I did enjoy the movie somewhat

It may not be the same for each of them, though.

Are we 100% sure Quynh was underwater for 500 years? We don't know the exact time period she escaped. She might have only been there for days/weeks etc and just not been able to track Andy down all this time as the group is so secretive.

Ultimately, we don't know why Andy lost her immortality. It could be that she has served her purpose of divine interventions.

We know that she was still underwater because Nile was dreaming about it. They dream about each other in the present.

I don't think they ever indicated that losing immortality was based on the number of times they died. It seemed like there was more of a mystical reason for their immortality that wasn't governed by the normal laws of science and once their purpose was fulfilled, they lost immortality whether they had died once or one thousand times.

Interesting math...

For me, the bigger takeaway that Quynh would have gone literally insane with the experience. Imagine being immobile, alone, cold, living in near silence for centuries, knowing that it will never end, that you can't even hope for death to end your torture?

TBH that bit of the story gave me the absolute creeps...

The number of times they die doesn’t correlate to when they lose their immortality. It seems when it’s up, it’s up!

I’m more interested in the affects or how her immortality counter affects the seawater. Being submerged in water for even a short amount of time affects the skin....and then there’s bloating.....and the sea creatures that could get in the casket would also be working to decompose her. It’s fascinating how the regenerative powers of Quynh would have worked, never mind the fact that she survives continuous drowning.
