Things I Learned While Watching : The Old Guard

- People with military, medical, and espionage backgrounds cannot perform a Google search to figure out the age of the Scythian Empire.
- The US Army doesn't have radar, satellite or drone technology to find a stolen Humvee in the Afghan desert (let alone helicopters to catch them thereafter).
- A 50cc moped makes the same noise as a big cylinder four-stroke motorcycle engine.
- Immortals with healing powers cannot break their bones to get out of chains.
- You've found the cure for cancer but that's just not enough.
- You've found the cure for cancer but you still need funding for new projects.
- Always carry a sword or axe when going on modern tactical operations.
- The CIA has knowledge about Immortals that is accessible by ex-employees.

reply

Ha. All valid points.

reply

Nah; not so much.

reply

Still debatable. I enjoyed the heck out of the movie flaws and all.

reply

Eh, why not; I'll play:

- People with military, medical, and espionage backgrounds cannot perform a Google search to figure out the age of the Scythian Empire.
* LOL. . .people on MovieChat cannot either, apparently

- The US Army doesn't have radar, satellite or drone technology to find a stolen Humvee in the Afghan desert (let alone helicopters to catch them thereafter).
* You're assuming it was stolen. Or if it was, that the theft was noticed in that time frame.

- A 50cc moped makes the same noise as a big cylinder four-stroke motorcycle engine.
* When ported through your impressive speakers, with certain dramatic license: Yes, it does

- Immortals with healing powers cannot break their bones to get out of chains.
* How do you think she (eventually) escaped?

- You've found the cure for cancer but that's just not enough.
* He didn't find the cure for cancer. Watch more carefully.

- You've found the cure for cancer but you still need funding for new projects.
* He didn't find the cure for cancer. Stop texting while watching movies.

- Always carry a sword or axe when going on modern tactical operations.
* And a knife. And several guns. And assorted other weapons.

- The CIA has knowledge about Immortals that is accessible by ex-employees.
* No, but ex-employees are (clearly) capable of collating such knowledge on their own, After they retire. Watch more carefully.

Fin.

reply

Seems like the OP didn't watch the movie lol.

Also about the Scythian point, that Google search doesn't reveal Andy's exact age.

reply

* LOL. . .people on MovieChat cannot either, apparently
- I don't understand your comment ? She's roughly between the age of 2900 and 2200 years old. Does it make a huge difference ? She's been there for all of the important events of mankind...

* You're assuming it was stolen. Or if it was, that the theft was noticed in that time frame.
- Yes, you're right, she came in, knocked out two military police, abducted a Marine that was going to be detained by said MPs and yet managed to leave in a legally signed-out Humvee.

* When ported through your impressive speakers, with certain dramatic license: Yes, it does.
- You've obviously never hear the sound of a moped before...

* How do you think she (eventually) escaped?
- I am talking about when they were both chained in the dungeons...

* He didn't find the cure for cancer. Watch more carefully.
- Yes, let's nitpick, the point is that he made huge fortunes in cancer treatments.

* He didn't find the cure for cancer. Stop texting while watching movies.
- Yes, let's nitpick, the point is that he made huge fortunes in cancer treatments.

* And a knife. And several guns. And assorted other weapons.
- That's my point, when you have guns and assorted modern weaponry, why bring a sword.

* No, but ex-employees are (clearly) capable of collating such knowledge on their own, After they retire. Watch more carefully.
- I don't think you understand the point. People who know about Immortals would never be allowed to leave the CIA and act unchecked like Copley did.

* I don't understand yours either, I guess. Don't see the linkage between your thoughts, or why any of this qualifies as a "problem" in the movie.

- Yes, you're right, she came in, knocked out two military police, abducted a Marine that was going to be detained by said MPs and yet managed to leave in a legally signed-out Humvee.
*Instead of doubling down on your error, you should just go ahead and admit you have No idea what goes on at a busy military base, in a forward area. Short version: every vehicle is NOT under lock and key, and a random vehicle would certainly not be noticed missing, in the time frame we saw.

- You've obviously never hear the sound of a moped before...
*>Whoooooosh<
(That's the sound of you missing the point. . .)

* How do you think she (eventually) escaped?
- I am talking about when they were both chained in the dungeons...
* . . .so am I.

- Yes, let's nitpick, the point is that he made huge fortunes in cancer treatments.
* LOOOOOOL. . .did you really say "nitpick"???? The irony lightning is about to hit you. Duck!!! And while you're ducking, consider the fact that Elon Musk, Bill Gates, Bezos, Zuckerberg, et al don't share your (puzzling) philosophy. They all still work VERY hard, and are constantly driving to stay on the bleeding edge. See how that works?

- That's my point, when you have guns and assorted modern weaponry, why bring a sword.
* Because it makes sense to bring bladed weapons as well. Have you never been in a fight? Seen one? Watched a movie? Yikes.

- I don't think you understand the point. People who know about Immortals would never be allowed to leave the CIA and act unchecked like Copley did.
* I don't think you understand the movie. He built that data HIMSELF. *Not* with the CIA. Watch more carefully.

I'd like to add huge pharmaceutical companies not removing access rights from key cards from people that present a risk to them.
