Episode 5 - Blood Calls Blood

SPOILERS

What did I just watch ? Whoever wrote the pile of crap that was episode five should never get work as a writer again.

Almost the entire episode was filler in that apart from arriving at the White Tower nothing of significance happened. I was looking forward to this episode because I thought well at last they will have arrived at the White Tower and the story can start picking up pace. Instead the exact opposite happened.

And the interminable grieving over the death of one of the Icy Dykes. I don't even know what her name was because she was a minor character. And then the suicide of her warder who I also don't know the name of because he was an even more minor character. Personally I wasn't invested in either of them. In fact I disliked her warder so I couldn't have cared less. And yet it felt like a third of the episode was given over to this tedious and irksome side plot. And the last scene with the communal chest beating would have been laughable if it wasn't so ridiculous.

Disappointing and annoying to say the least.

Yeah it was kind of boring. There actually was a lot of information packed in there but nothing super exciting happened. It was all set-up, no payoff really. I like to see some lightning crackling powers and buildings crumbling... 'splosions, stuff like that; not a bunch of people standing around talking about which of them is the most powerful.

What? You don't know King Harald Finehair??? Shame on you!!!

For me it was the opposite, the most interesting episode so far, less pew pew more talkie talkie, a move toward game of thrones but with (a lot) weaker dialogues and ... everything.

It's trying too hard to be GOT, and that isn't what the fans of the books want. The show is suffering for trying to be what it isn't.

I could have done without the chest-thumping funeral. The actor who played the warder also played King Harold from the Vikings tv show so I was sad to see him go. I liked the episode overall. It was cool to see the whitecloak Valda get stabbed since he's an evil jerk. It was also cool to see that Perrin has special powers.

He'll be back I think. It would be silly to waste the second best villain the show has.

Yes it was great to see Perrin the Lord of the Doggies standing there with his mouth hanging open looking like a retard while his eyes turned yellow. Awesome powers !
