is there really a target audience for this?

The show is so religious and conservative, I am surprised the network went with it. Is this something that can be popular in this day and age?

I actually kinda thought it was offensive to a lot of people.

It's really not.

I was doing something when the pilot was in the background, so I can't say I was paying my utmost attention, but I thought the woman being treated as a birthing machine who has no voice in her own house (the "are you telling me what to do?" bit) was highly offensive.

Either way, can't imagine this material being relatable for a lot of people.

reply

Ah, you're gen-V. People who fetishize victimhood and walk around being offended and down trodden by everything.

Whatevs.

Your world view sounds pretty narrow. Women with agency often prefer that kind of life. Even today, Western churches are filled with lonely, single women who'd love to settle down:

lol. It isn't really conservative and religious at all. The family is a general representation of a typical lower/middle class catholic (I think) family of that time. If you were born in the 60's or 70's this might appeal to you. I like the show. I was just a baby in the 70, but this kind of reminds me of my childhood to an extent. How you were offended or saw it as religious and conservative is beyond me.

I thought it be just a Goldberg ripoff, but this show is not bad, I think it has a chance for renewal

reply

I think so too. I am enjoying it so far. I think it will resonate with a lot of people 40 and over.

reply

Keep being offended at everything and you'll have to throw your TV away and all your devices.

reply

That's a strange reply. I am offended by religion. There isn't exactly much religious programming on network TV, let alone cable or Netflix /Hulu/ Amazon which I normally watch.
