I was doing something when the pilot was in the background, so I can't say I was paying my utmost attention, but I thought the woman being treated as a birthing machine who has no voice in her own house (the "are you telling me what to do?" bit) was highly offensive.
Either way, can't imagine this material being relatable for a lot of people.
Your world view sounds pretty narrow. Women with agency often prefer that kind of life. Even today, Western churches are filled with lonely, single women who'd love to settle down:
lol. It isn't really conservative and religious at all. The family is a general representation of a typical lower/middle class catholic (I think) family of that time. If you were born in the 60's or 70's this might appeal to you. I like the show. I was just a baby in the 70, but this kind of reminds me of my childhood to an extent. How you were offended or saw it as religious and conservative is beyond me.
That's a strange reply. I am offended by religion. There isn't exactly much religious programming on network TV, let alone cable or Netflix /Hulu/ Amazon which I normally watch.
