Luger Pistol

In the Pacific Theater? For the sake of authenticity, it would have made more sense if it were a Nambu.

reply

i assume, he also served in europe. or when he was going back he met some other servicemen that served in europe and was given the gun.

reply

I could be wrong, but I'm not sure soldiers served in both theaters of war. And if they did, it was probably rare. For the sake of authenticity, they should have used a Nambu.

reply

nobody knows what a nambu is

reply

It looks almost exactly the same, so no one would have batted an eye. For the sake of historical accuracy, it should have been a Nambu.

reply

i bet they go for a pretty penny nowadays

reply

Looking on GunBroker, they seem to be going in the upper hundreds to few thousands, depending on the model. Same with Lugers and the Walther P38.

reply

He said in the movie he bought it from someone

reply

Yeah. As a Marine it's unlikely he ever served in the European theater. He told his dad he bought it off a guy who claimed it was the pistol Hitler used to commit suicide. No doubt a lot confiscated p08s & P38s were claimed thus. Obviously he didn't believe it. He can't have paid much for it, which is surprising given that the P08 was one of the most prized souvenirs a GI could bring home. Still, it made sense.
