Pennywise helping with the ritual?

Maybe I missed something about the film, but you know the part where they were collecting tokens for the ritual? I can see that some of the characters’ tokens were obtained in the present time/reality (like Richie’s token, Eddie’s inhaler, Stanley’s shower cap), but the others got their token while stuck in Pennywise’s illusions, like Bill’s paper boat and Ben’s yearbook page and I think Bev’s postcard. Were all the tokens obtained in the real world or illusion world? That part confused me...so was Pennywise helping them to essentially defeat him?

the ritual was a scam - as we later learned in the film

Yeah, maybe Pennywise was "helping" them because IT too doesn't believe in Native American superstitious spiritual hogwash, and was mocking them.

Come to think of it, why DID Mike mislead the Losers into wasting their time collecting pointless stuff that would not help them defeat IT?

reply

They wouldn't have helped otherwise. They were all pretty much in the process of leaving Derry and heading back to their homes after what happened at the restaurant. Mike needed a way to get them to go through on stopping Pennywise/IT along with getting back down to the sewers and Pennywise/IT's lair. So he figured if he could get Bill to believe him about the ritual, then the others would believe him also, and then things would go from there.
