What parts of the movie do you feel were in his head?

Which parts were real, and which were imagined?

The big riot at the end/Waynes’ death. The escape from the cop car seems too much like a typical action movie/fantasy and we never see how he was recaptured. I think after he was arrested on the set of Murray’s show, he was taken straight to jail.

The murder of Thomas and Martha happened during the riot. When it cuts to Arthur in the hospital, he pictures Bruce standing over his parents’ bodies and that’s when he said he was thinking if a joke. He was imagining it.

Over time since I've seen the film (a month), I've started to think that the riot at the end could have actually just been people fleeing from the subway and/or buildings because of the giant rats in Gotham mentioned on the news. Arthur imagined them as all protesters, that is him being taken in but the rest pure imagination. One of the reasons I'd love to see a Ratcatcher movie set in the exact same time-frame as Joker, would love to see it all from another perspective, like I said elsewhere could even see Joker in the distance like in the phone booth as the giant rat runs by.

The date night part with the neighbor was imagined.

Strictly speaking all of it. But I think parts are his take on what happened (i.e. shooting the 3 Wayne workers) and parts are totally made up (appearing on Murray's show the first time).

Really anything and everything could be in his head. But for sure:

Murray's show the first time
Dating the neighbor
The riot at the end

The clown giving Arthur the gun as a "gift" was imagined. His boss later said that he had heard Arthur was trying to buy a 38. Arthur had bought the gun from the clown instead of it being a gift.

Would a violent mental patient be allowed to walk around a mental hospital by himself? That ending seemed unrealistic aka: delusional to me, also.

How much was in his head at the end?

Does it matter?
He's batcrap crazy... and delighting in it

Why cant Wayne predict him? That's why.
