My review (amazing!)

This review may contain spoilers.

So I just returned from the theaters...wow. I am absolutely amazed. Now first off, let me just say, that I never go to the movie theaters anymore. But for this film, I just had to make an exception. Ever since I watched the first trailer release, I've been highly intrigued.

I won't go too much into the plot. But if you're expecting some sort of superhero type of film...than you'll be highly disappointed. This is a completely different type of film. But I say that in a good way. Finally, something different, original, and unique to hit the theaters. I don't think I've ever seen a movie quite like this before. And I heard a lot of movie reviewers saying that this film had a 'Taxi Driver feel' to it. Now, that didn't exactly discourage me from wanting to see it, seeing that Taxi Driver is one of my all-time favorite films. But I can honestly say that Joker, in my opinion, didn't seem really that similar to Taxi Driver...like at all. It's a unique standalone story.

This film does a great job at capturing a mental breakdown. Joaquin Phoenix delivered a stunning performance. What surprised me about the film, is how utterly dark and somewhat disturbing it was. The score to the film was also great. It kind of reminded of the score from Requiem for a Dream at moments. The cinematography was incredible. The entire film is shot beautifully. So as far as writing, directing, acting, and cinematography goes, I'd have to give this movie an A+. Seriously impressive.

My only criticism would be the very last ending scene where Arthur is in the mental hospital. I mean, don't get me wrong, I fully understand the psychological twist. But I would've found Joker standing on top of the police car, with a bloody smile, and a crowd cheering him on to be a more satisfying ending. But oh well. The ending by no means ruined the overall film for me. I still enjoyed it.

So I'll end this review by saying that all the hype is legit. This film is amazing. I'd highly recommend it.

Agreed.

As far as the very ending?
That riot was going to end hours or days (even if they had to call in the nation guard) later, and Arthur Fleck's name, looks, address would be well known by then (little guy he let walk out the door (thankfully) went straight to the cops).

So, no way was he going to escape.
So jump ahead a couple weeks later, and there he is in Arkham, talking to a shrink.

But as Joker said in a previous incarnation, "Does it really matter if you take me back to Arkham if it doesn't matter to me?"
