Applause in my packed theater tonight.

It's a bit odd for people to clap for a movie with this subject matter and tone...but I understand. The movie is a visceral experience.

Having said that, I thought the first half of the film to be far superior to the second half. The first half of the film is absolutely mesmerizing. Loved the 1981 setting and along with Joaquin's performance the cinematography and score.

This film may be a game-changer in the CBM genre and will have legs and impact much longer into the future than most.

I only witnessed people clapping in theater once. And that was Spider-Man 3 lol.

the last half is good too, besides the shoehorned Batman origin stuff , but is poetic in the birth of Joker happened at the same time

In my experience, a great deal of clapping in the theater depends on the audience you happened to share tickets with at that particular time and location.

No applause at my theater, but there was always a lady laughing loud whenever Joker killed someone on screen or something horrific happened.

A little disturbing to say the least.
