So far This is Very Good.
I’ll admit this didn’t seem like my cup of tea at first glance but the 1st 2 episodes were exceptional in my POV. The leading 2 actresses are superb, the girl who plays Elena is beautiful & she’s only but a child. Can only imagine what she’ll look like when she reaches womanhood. The actress who plays Lila is no slouch either, she’s very good.
Watching their misadventures & struggles, heartbreaks & joys brought a tear to my eye. Be warned this series doesn’t hold back, as it reflects a different time & place, where families were strict to the point where they seemed unfeeling & cruel & kids were hit, rather severely. People at that time & culture didn’t hold back. Think of it what you may but it is what it is & that was that.
It is heartbreaking to see how girls were treated at that time, especially by their own families, even the very exceptional ones as Elena & Lila both were. The lack of support from their kin to support them in their education & of society at large. The dearth of opportunities for their growth & learning & these 2 were brilliant, was just mind boggling.
Sadly as repulsed I am to say it, this plays out across the country & world every day & everywhere even today. Too bad we won’t get more episodes with these 2 actresses as from the previews for episode 3, it appears that they’ll skip ahead in time to Elena’s & Lila’s teen years played by dffferent actresses. Have to admit I’m already partial to these 2 girls so I’m a little prejudiced. It’s a testament to the job they both did, but I’ll watch next week to see how the other girls fare.
If you are looking for a quality series of a different sort then check this out. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. This is great stuff from what I’ve seen thus far & btw it IS subtitled but this is so good that shouldn't matter. It only adds to the quality of this show. Hope those of you who see this like it. Have a feeling you will.
