'Flight of the Navigator' (1986) comes to mind. Deals with time travel and alien tech, with a kid a the lead.

Mysterious Two (1982) was actually filmed as the pilot for a show called Follow Me if You Dare. However the show was not picked up. But I would love to know where the story went from there.
