Like Father/Like Daughter

No this is not a "Daniel was the real bully." thread. Just pointing out how not only did he stupidly love to pull a tiger's tail, but his daughter is also in the habit of doing it.

In KK1, Daniel is severely beaten, torment, and knocked down a hill by his bullies. And even when he was having a great time at the Halloween dance with Ali and no one knew he was there, he still decided to mess with Johnny, and was almost beaten to death.

Season 4 Spoilers

So by this point Tori has stalked Samantha at school and not only did they have a vicious fight, but Tori pulled a weapon on Sam, and Sam ended up at the hospital with internal injuries. And then Tori invaded the LaRusso's house and again had a vicious fight with Sam, with more weapons involved. So how does Samantha handle the cease fire through this year? By constantly taunting and messing with Tori, especially in situations where Tori wouldn't be able to respond. Like at her job, in front of children, or at school after Tori was just reinstated.

Yes, and I think it's intentional. We're not SUPPOSED to think either Daniel or Sam are always right and always good. The showrunners, Macchio in particular, were well aware of the "Daniel is the bully" meme and worked it into the show. I think they did it justice.

But I did think the show fairly portrayed Sam's trauma, so confronting Tori was a (stupid but understandable) way to deal with it.

But messing with her at the kids' party was just shitty. She's exploiting the cease-fire at that point, and I actually cheered on Tori's glitter-bomb revenge.

I think Daniel and Sam are "Right Fighters" they see a situation, like Daniel seeing Johnny arguing with Ali on the beach in the first film. He could have just stayed out of the way, it should be noted that there were many people standing there watching and yet Johnny does not care about any of them. He wants to work it out with Ali.

Daniel gets involved, gets pushed falls. Johnny is happy to go back to talking to Ali. Daniel gets up rushes him and Johnny trips him twice. Goes back to talking to Ali. Daniel gets up and sucker punches Johnny and that is when Johnny kicks his ass.

How stupid do you have to be? This stupidity extends to Sam's mother as well. Why would you try and have that discussion at Tori's work? Then she gets fired and so Sam taunts her at her new job?

Then at school later on. Yes, Tori was a bitch but what is gained from pushing her so she actually does kill you?

That's a unique way of looking at it.

I was referring more to the Halloween party. Daniel had the perfect costume. No one knew he was there, even when he was in the bathroom with the Cobra Kai. He and Ali were totally hitting it off, so he decides this will be the perfect time to screw with Johnny, who was busy rolling a joint in the stall. Had Daniel San just snuck out of the bathroom and rejoined Ali, he might have become "Daniel MAN" later that night. But instead, he screwed with Johnny and caught the worst beating yet and was lucky it wasn't worse.

reply

Rather stupid thing to do. Very impulsive and I know I would've been totally focused on making it with Ali.

Go to the Karate Kid 3 board with this crap. Seriously, leave.

Nah your stupid responses make me laugh.

Every single character in the show has been the bad guy at some point. They conveniently try to make Tory more likable just as Sam decides to stand up for herself against this girl who has been a complete monster to her, so of course now everyone is down on Sam and Tory is there ready for redemption. Hawk was as bad as anyone and then suddenly he's a sympathetic figure. Now they're even doing it with Kreese. This is why I think the show has gone on too long. The character development doesn't really make much sense.

They want to try and make that argument, but it doesn't always work. Sam making fun of Tory is no way, shape, or form comparable to anything Tory has done.

Sam with the Johnny/Daniel rivalry. Now I like Johnny a hell of a lot better than Tory and the guy is clearly trying to be a better person, but he is a fuck up and absolutely bullied Daniel. Indefensible and he can't even admit it. Daniel has done some stuff to him, but nothing akin to beating the shit out of him the way Johnny did as teens.

Hawk, I agree is just an absolute mess of a character. Christ, he was bullying that new kid up until the last minute.

I did feel a little bad for Kreese, but the constant flip flopping and refusal to make anyone a villain has worn thin.

reply

Daniel has not been a bad guy. Neither has Sam

reply

Kreese is not a good guy and has never been at any point in the series
