Long term plan

Have the producers ever said what the long term plan is for the series and at what season they want to end, at least for this iteration? This show is really good but shouldn’t last forever. It would be nice to see there be a definitive planned conclusion to series or at least a stopping point wherein the franchise can go dormant until another reboot several years down the line. It also would be cool if they do another Karate Kid movie in the far future in which Daniel is a widowed old man and has fully become “Mr. Miyagi” training a new kid bringing everything full circle.

I'm pretty sure they said they have an endgame planned, and at least a rough idea of how things are gonna end up. I think it's up in the air how much of the middle is outlined or spontaneously written from season to season. I really hope this ends strong. So far, I've continued to be pleased with every season, so I'm hoping they end strong.

I'm willing to bet they never thought it would last more than one season and when it did they had to scramble to try and work out what to do with it.

I would prefer it go out on top than dragging on and on until we see Sam start teaching karate to her grandchildren.

Yeah, I would like to see the show end at Season 6 or 7, so it ends around the 40th anniversary of the original Karate Kid. Also it seems most shows that go longer than 7 seasons lose their original focus and cast members leave and/or are replaced. Then maybe they could bring the franchise back in the far future (15-20 years) to allow time for nostalgia to build again and have Daniel and/or Johnny become old so they can become the “Mr. Miyagi” character(s) bringing everything full circle.

I guess Daniel and Johnny are already around Miyagi's age at the time of the first film, I am not sure if he was meant to be really old but he looked around 60ish, Pat Morita himself was 52 at the time. They already are the Miyagi character both have DoJo's.

I would say most shows start hitting the wall around Season 4 which Cobra Kai is already doing. I just don't think they will ever resolve the issues between Johnny and Daniel although it isn't as bad as it used to be. They could work on Sam and Tori to resolve their stuff and the relationship between Johnny and his son.

I would say if there was a next wave of nostalgia it could be Tori and Sam taking on the Johnny and Daniel roles but I don't think this show will have the cult following Karate Kid does.

Yeah, I don’t see any of the teenage characters continuing the franchise on their own unless they make Miguel, Sam, Hawk, and/or Tori better/more important in the upcoming seasons.

According to the tombstone, Miyagi was born in 1925. That would make him 60 during the first movie and 61 during the third. Daniel was 16 or 17 in the first film making him 52 now (assuming the series is still taking place in 2020. It's already been pointed out that Daniel's statement in Season 3 that he is the same age as Miyagi was a mistake, Ralph Macchio is actually the same age Pat Morita was.

BTW: The producers said they had a six season plan in mind from the beginning.

I don't want the show to end without them bringing back Mike Barnes. Every key character from each of the first 3 movies has made an appearance except "Karate's Bad Boy". Would be a shame for this to end without him. Would be cool to see Snake too.

reply

Better chance on seeing Snake than Barnes. He was actually Terry's employee with no real loyalty to Barnes.

As for Barnes, He has more reason than hate Silver than Daniel does. When the dojo plan went under he lost his 50% interest. Now they've started the dojo up without him. He could look at that as being cheated.
