hard to believe martial arts is still a draw.

so 1970s

reply

I still like these shows and movies but then I'm so 1970s too😁

Especially the cheesy "family friendly" martial arts we see in this movie.

In no universe, does Ralph Macchio look like he knows karate. You would think that in preparation for this series, he would have taken some fight training.

William Zabka looks like he could actually fight, but he still noticeably pulls his punches and kicks.

And the kids... ugh. A few are obviously trained in karate/gymnastics but, for the most part, they look as threatening as a dance lineup from West Side Story.

I would say Zabka’s kicks look very solid, especially in the apartment fight.

He has to, since they're not really fighting, but acting.

I think it's making a comeback. All my friends who have kids have their kids in martial arts programs. And two of the moms are big into it too.

reply

that is true. most kids are involved with it. i can remember when it was a big deal in the 70s and it seems dated to me now.

Martial arts come and go. The late 90’s/early 00’s were also big years for martial arts thanks to Jackie Chan, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, etc. And of course, the 80’s saw a comeback with the Karate Kid movies, the Ninja Turtles, etc. It’s making another comeback now.

reply

There’s martial arts schools everywhere in the northeast

reply

i don't find it interesting anymore as a genre.

reply

Yeah, but yr not fifteen anymore

this is true

Look at every cop show...FBI show...NCIS...Chicago PD...The Equalizer (Queen Latifah version), McGyver, etc, etc.
Every woman on these shows is (apparently) an absolute master at kung fu...and they throw multiple men around with ease, never sustaining a blow or losing a fight, ever.

Oh yes, apparently martial arts has made a comeback.....because every actress on TV (and in many movies) is a master at them.

lol great point

reply

You are so stupid...😂

reply

70s? martial arts was still popular in the 80s, 90s and 00s as well. Not sure why its so hard to believe that other people out there have a interest in it just because you clearly don't. I think you've been living under a rock.

so 1970s

The very first Karate Kid was released in 1984.
Just sayin'.
