Is this any good?

It definitely sounds interesting.

It's really good. It's kinda like The Wire meets The Town. I've only watched 2 episodes so far, but if the rest of the season is as good as the first two episodes this one is a real winner.

And Kevin Bacon is great in it!

It's one of those shows where I couldn't really get a handle on what they were trying to accomplish.
It ended up being ok to me, nothing extraordinary. The character I enjoyed the most was a family man robber-murderer, if that tells you anything xD

The only way to find out is to watch it yourself, of course.

It’s quite meandering. I am only on ep 4 and the central story seems drowned in a lot of pointless filler scenes (eg., a little girl’s nightmares, a neglected wife seeking guidance from a priest, the neverending repair of a medicine cabinet...). The characters are not well defined either. Bacon is supposed to be our antihero but he’s a bit too obnoxious to root for on any level. I find the DeCourcy character very flat, dull and inconsistent. Some of supporting characters are good though, like Bacon’s chain-smoking MIL.

It’s a good series for anyone who liked The Town and Gone Baby Gone. It can’t hold a candle to The Wire which had the patience to brilliantly slow roll out complex characters and interwoven plots. This show seems like a fast and cheap mockup of that genre. But I like stories about Boston crime and politics so I am enjoying it flaws and all.

I am not liking this season at all. The writing is all over the place. Every time a Rohr family scene comes on I cringe. The worst scene yet was the kitchen scene in the last episode where Jackie makes an awkward and self-centered confession from his childhood to elicit pity from his traumatized wife and daughter. And they fell for it and had a hug it out moment. 🤮

I snooze when the Decourcy couple have a scene. They are the most deadpan, monotonously dull couple. Is this guy supposed to be the protagonist of this show? He makes as much impact as a blurred background extra in an insurance ad.

Once again the worst acting award of the episode goes to that US Attorney Karen whatever. Even by daytime soap opera standards, her line delivery sucks.

Why did the show strip away all the interesting characters and actual talent ? Hank and Rachel were an interesting pair of detectives. Cathy Moriarity and James Remar were good. The Ryan brothers were both good, but all that is left of that story is the one-note-don’t-mess-with-me-wife.
