Not What I Expected

Well, I just saw The Black Phone and it was definitely not what I was expecting. I was expecting more of a horror movie but instead it was a suspense/drama with supernatural elements.

I was a little disappointed because I went in with very high expectations. Once I realized it wasn't the horror film I thought it would be, I watched it with a different mindset. I ended up liking it. It turned out to be quite sweet at the end. The acting was good and the story did hold my interest.

I am surprised at Ethan Hawke though. The part of The Grabber really could have been played by anyone, IMO. Not sure why Hawke would have accepted this role, especially since his face was covered throughout the movie and his dialog was nothing special. But I guess he found it to be a worthwhile role.

Anyone who likes dramas with a little suspense would probably like this movie.

Agreed, Hawke was really wasted here. I'm surprised, because he's usually pretty thoughtful about projects he chooses. He had very little dialogue and acting here. Was expecting his role to be more like Silence of the Lambs - Anthony Hopkins-ess.

Exactly!

Maybe it paid well?

Probably

I was surprised also, but pleasantly.

I loved him as The Grabber. I would have liked to have seen more of him as this character but I thought he was awesome 😊

I would have liked to see more of him too. That's sort of my point, that a famous actor like Ethan Hawke did not have to play this role. I felt it was beneath him, that any actor could have pulled it off, especially since his face wasn't shown. I'm glad you liked it though 🙂

I understand what you mean. Maybe he'll take a similar role with more screen time. I'd love to see him play the villain again 😊

I enjoyed this movie. None of my family or friends thought much of it but I loved it.
