SPOILERS. Would have worked so much better as a true crime drama.
It is even hinted in the scene of drunken frenzy leading to Arne's killing of Bruno (a guy named Bono in real life), whom the already possessed Arne sees (or rather thinks he sees) lecherously dancing with his girlfriend. In the real-life version of the story I'd imagine that Arne may have had a fit of jealousy rage, with Bono, who was the young couple's landlord, maybe really having made a pass on Arne's girlfriend. However, that kind of story would be too seedy for a Conjuring franchise that James Wan always aimed for PG-13 I think.
