That's what I was wondering as well

So much for that

Judging by Laurie's conversation with the Senator I would guess not. He implied that Dan is in prison and is blackmailing her to get him out.

But then that raises the question: why were they using Archie?

I'm trying to figure out how he was the only one who wound up in prison, & not even Laurie herself or anybody else.

Veidt appeared to be the "Hero" of his own story, went into seclusion and was finally declared dead. The Comedian was dead. Rorschach was dead and Dr. Manhattan was gone.

It would appear that Laurie cut a deal and because of her knowledge of working as a vigilante (and her hate because she felt inadequate and dumped by Dr. Manhattan) Laurie was very useful in tracking down other vigilantes. Laurie clearly has an axe to grind based on her "Jokes" to Dr. Manhattan. In the joke she as the girl, felt overlooked and now wants to play the role of the "Anarchist" on the inside willing to bring even God down for being overlooked and undervalued.

Sounds great, many thanks NorrinRad. Thing is I also didn't understand the ending of episode 3, with the car falling from the sky & what it was that Laurie saw & her reaction. What was that supposed to be about?

In Laurie's joke about three heroes and God she is overlooked. The little girl had thrown the brick into the air as part of the first story that she told and that Laurie explained that she botched the punch line. God thought he was done dealing with all the heroes and states that he doesn't know who she is. She replies to God that she is the one who threw the brick in the air when the brick smacks God in the head and kills him. God is also sent to hell. Laurie smiles at her own joke and the message is sent to Dr. Manhattan. Laurie leaves the booth, stands, looks up and the car almost smacks her.

The suggestion is that Dr. Manhattan received her call and drops Angela's car, sans Will, right at Laurie's footsteps to imply that he has both received her message and has a sense of humor. We are led to believe that she laughs implying that she knows that Dr. Manhattan received her messages. We don't know what Laurie saw and we are not led to believe that even Laurie knows precisely what she saw. It appears to be the same vehicle/craft that scooped up Will in Angela's car and may or may not have been swept up by the original Owl Ship (Archimedes).
