C'mon folks...it's been out since Christmas Day....and it's a pretty great movie.
If you like the western genre, you'll like this movie. It's tough to come by westerns these days...and they're not easy to pull off. This one gets it right. So do Hanks and his co-star.
Hanks nails it here, showing a man conflicted with demons we slowly come to understand. The layers of his past peel back like an onion. He displays a capable toughness when push comes to shove....but also a paternal vulnerability that plays extremely well off his young co-star (Helena Zengel)....who is wonderful.
MAJOR SPOILER ALERT:
This movie has a heartwarming payoff....and part of that is seeing how Helena's character and Hanks' character find a happiness together despite their demons and tragic pasts. Seeing Helena's character (Johanna) finally smile at the end of this movie is worth the price of admission.
Curious to hear how others felt about this movie. I liked it quite a bit.
