First, we have the lesbian angle. That's OK and possible. But they don't stop there and add the interracial situation. I seriously doubt a Royal Navy pilot would marry a Mulato back in those days. Another shortcoming is the lack of military activity on the coast and beaches shown in this film. During the war, the coast of Kent would be covered with barbed wire and fortifications.

It's a nice story and worth watching, but I'd say a little too "neat". Everything is arranged just so. No rough edges or unexpected parts really. Once Gemma Arterton's character finds the photos you know exactly how the whole rest of the movie is going to go.
