Only 20 Million in US?

That is worse than I thought. Is it that people are tired of Nolan, poor word of mouth or is it the virus.

reply

Theresa global pandemic, and we seem to spread it like there's no tomorrow.

reply

2 biggest markets in the country NYC and LA are closed

reply

It is still low. When I went to see it Saturday night there were only 4 people in my theater. That is unheard of.

reply

Unheard of when there wasn’t a pandemic, pretty damn common now that there’s a pandemic.

reply

Ok, the thing I don't understand is that in my area, restaurants, stores and beaches are packed. There are parties at colleges with 100 or more people. Things in my area are pretty much as normal as they can be. If that is so, then why are people afraid to go to the movies? I am sure that the pandemic is partly to blame, but that can't be the entire story.

reply

People have been stuck inside watching movies for months. They want to go outside and socialize, not watch more movies.

reply

Makes sense.

reply

They don't want to see a new Nolan movie? I still don't buy any of these theories.

reply

You're the one who is obsessed with Nolan movies. The rest of us will enjoy this movie when in a safe and virus-free manner.

reply

Obsessed? Please explain.

reply

hehehe bugfatty, google "labor day crowd 2020" for images. 6 people in a empty theater is nothing.

reply

Most restaurants and bars have been open the last couple months. Theaters are just opening up. People want to go, but it's still got to be a good movie to draw them in.

reply

Tenet was supposed to be the movie to bring them back. Obviously it wasn't the one.

reply

You make it seem like watching a movie is an all day thing.

reply

Movie going is not an essential outing like buying groceries. People will wait for it on Netflix or DVD.

I went and saw it but only after the crowds had gone down. There was only 2 other in my cinema. That's how I wanted it.

reply

Restaurants and the beach are not essential, but OK, yeah, I was glad that there were only 4 people in my theater.

reply

It's because the COVID-19 overreaction makes going to the theater seem like picking up a hooker who makes you wear a condom; it totally ruins the experience. It's also because the movies being released suck.

reply

Tenet was supposedly one of the most anticipated movies of the year. People, especially in hillbilly land, really don't care about this virus. You would think that people would at least be going there in big numbers, but it isn't happening.

reply

Yes, it was highly anticipated until word of mouth started to get out about how bad it was... Not to mention when you have a pandemic where people are concerned with life as we know it you don't want to go see a movie where the bad guy is trying to destroy the world. Look at what movies were hot when we had the great depression, it was comedies not doom and gloom movies. This was a dumb shit time to release a movie like this, period. You want to release a movie and have a chance at it doing well you need to release one that makes people feel good and laugh.

reply

Yep, lots of comedies in the 1930's. Good ones too.

reply

Unprotected sex with unknowns is as dumb as it gets.

reply

No one is tired of Nolan, he'll have to screw up pretty badly for that to happen. It's the virus and the fact that not all movie theaters are open.

reply

I don't agree. If you can go to a restaurant, then you can go to a movie.

reply

No literally not all movie theaters are open, I had to go to another state to see this movie

reply

I think you'll find all movies are underperforming these days.

reply

If people can disregard protocol and walk through stores and restaurants maskless, then they should have no qualms about seeing this movie. It's doing much worse than most thought it would.
