$146 million globally, $20 million US

I was thinking it might at least hit $50 million domestically. If corona hadn't come around it probably would've made $100-$150 million in the US.

I wonder how the studio feels about this. I also wonder how much more it would've made if New York and LA were open.

not good, maybe 15m holiday weekend

reply

it honestly doesn't deserve to be financially successful. nolan should feel bad making so many simple mistakes in the film that he usually gets right in all the rest

reply

Simple mistakes like what?

reply

character, plot, execution of action scenes, not having expository dialogue that actually explains things instead of spinning wheels, doing a crazy mind bender plot without it sucking or making no sense, having a point or actual message, etc etc

reply

I walked out of the film totally baffled, but I did have the feeling that the film probably makes sense in the mind of Chris Nolan. That is, it's definitely a puzzle that requires assembly but I suspect there IS a way to put it together properly.

reply

his awful tagline "don't think, feel" is all you really need to know. A farcical pretentious way of saying turn your brain off. Either Nolan is a fool or he thinks the audience is.

reply

You mention he got it right in previous movies, though. It's not true, these things were similar in Inception and Interstellar as well.

reply

That's not too bad actually. Theatres are also operating at 30% capacity too, so the numbers will lower regardless.

WB is probably looking to just break even with this. It was never going to make a high profit given the circumstances.

If it gets legs it might do better over the next few weeks, but it's too early to tell.

If it underperforms then WB will probably delay Wonder Woman 1984 and Dune into next year, but I hope that doesn't happen.

reply

Theaters here are 50% but I only had 12 people in my auditorium.

With a $225 million budget + marketing, the film still has a very, very long way to go just to break even. All involved better hope it performs well when it hits DVD/Blu-Ray/digital.

reply

20 million? I am surprised it even made that. The theaters are dead. No one is going.

reply

As I mentioned in my last comment, there were only 12 people in my auditorium. Then again, since there's hardly anything else coming out, they had 14 showtimes for Tenet. It would be interesting to know how much bigger the crowd would've been if they had only had, say, five or six showtimes.

I actually wonder if a lot of people even realize that the theaters are open again. Apparently my theater was actually open a full month before I found out the lights had been turned back on.

reply

It took me 10 seconds to count the number of cars in the parking lot at 7:45 last night. That was how dead it was. There were only 4 people in my theater last night. I was so surprised.

reply

That's a shame. You'd think that people would be so excited to have something new to do that the theaters would be packed.

I guess maybe some people are worried from a safety perspective but is it really any less safe than going to the grocery store or to a restaurant or bar?

reply

Bars aren't open where I live, but grocery stores and restaurants are. Restaurants are doing great business here, but people are afraid to go to a movie. There is a restaurant across the parking lot and it was packed. The cinema parking lot was empty as I said before. So strange.

reply

The movie should have been shelved for two years.
